Residents across Northern Michigan will have access to free wellness classes. This is an art display and a charity fun run throughout May as part of Mental Health Month.
North Country CMH hosts fun run, free classes for Mental Health Month
North Country Community Mental Health organised the events under the theme “More Good Days Together.” The agency says the theme emphasises the need for consistent wellness practices.
The 26th annual Splash of Color Fun Run and Visibility Walk is held on May 30 at the Festival Place Shelter, Petoskey. The run starts at 10 a.m., followed by the walk at 10:30 a.m.
Volunteers will throw colourful paint at designated checkpoints to raise health awareness. Proceeds from the event will go into the North Country CMH Client Special Needs Fund.

Art display at Charlevoix library, virtual wellness sessions open to the public
The Charlevoix Public Library at 220 W. Clinton St. will display artwork from members of the New Horizons Clubhouse.
North Country Community will also offer three free virtual wellness classes. This is from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. each day, and the classes are open to the public.
On May 18, Lynn Wolf, owner of Original Work Studio, will lead a session titled “Mind & Body Working Together to Move through the World with Ease.” The class will introduce participants to Pilates.
On May 19, IT specialists will present “How to Keep Your Devices Safe,” offering tips on protecting electronic devices from scams and phishing.
On May 21, a professional mental health clinician will lead “Making Connections and the World Outside,” a session on the benefits of social interaction and spending time in nature.
In a recent development, a new student initiative at Yale University is challenging the Police Department’s role in responding to student mental health emergencies. The initiative argued that trained mental health professionals, not armed officers, should handle wellness checks on campus.
