PANGeA Early Career Fellowship 2026 – Apply Now

The PANGeA Early Career Fellowship Program builds the next generation of academic leaders across Africa’s arts, humanities, and social sciences. Rather than recruiting broadly, the program works within a trusted network of eight partner universities to identify promising academics who are early in their careers and provide them with structured training in research leadership, university administration, and management alongside dedicated time for their own scholarly work.

About the PANGeA Early Career Fellowship Program

Administered by the Partnership for Africa’s Next Generation of Academics (PANGeA), a collaborative network founded in 2010 and anchored at the Graduate School of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, the fellowship was designed to address a gap that doctoral programs alone cannot fill. Most early-career academics across the continent face heavy teaching loads with little time for research, and almost no formal training in the institutional responsibilities that come with academic leadership.

Funding Size

  • Full residential fellowship covering eight weeks in Stellenbosch
  • Accommodation, subsistence, and program costs covered for the duration of the residency
  • No tuition or participation fees for fellows nominated by partner institutions
