More boats join Global Sumud Flotilla mission to Gaza
The Global Sumud Flotilla has now departed Sicily, Italy, after stopping in the region for a few days during its journey on the Mediterranean Sea. As the fleet departs Sicily, additional boats and participants join the fleet as the mission to Gaza continues.

The fleet departed Sicily on Sunday, April 26, at 12:00 UTC. The flotilla initially docked in Italy on April 23 after spending about 11 days at sea since departing Barcelona.
While organisers have estimated that about 100 boats and over 1000 participants will make up the fleet headed to Gaza, 64 boats are currently on the mission to Gaza. Before stopping in Sicily, the flotilla consisted of just about 39 active ships.
Moreover, the stop in Sicily allowed organisers to load the boats with additional food and medical supplies. Individuals who contributed to the rebuilding and restoration also joined the fleet during the stop in Sicily.
According to the real-time flotilla tracker, as of April 27 (14:12 UTC), the fleet is back on the Mediterranean Sea and just off the southeastern coast of Sicily. Organisers still expect more boats to join the fleet on its mission.
This is the Global Sumud Flotilla’s second attempt at getting aid into Gaza and challenging the Israeli blockade on aid into the region. The first attempt was made in 2025, but Israeli forces intercepted the flotilla.
Organisers have named the current mission to Gaza the “Spring 2026 Mission.” Organisers set up the mission in response to direct calls from Gaza.
The mission aims to challenge the Israeli blockade of aid into the region, provide humanitarian support to citizens in Gaza, and work alongside the Palestinian people to rebuild Gaza.
