Research is the central tool of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), a U.S. nonprofit established in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder. The New York-based organization funds scientists studying breast cancer across the full research spectrum, from prevention and early detection to treatment, survivorship and metastatic disease. Its mission is to prevent and cure breast cancer by advancing the most promising scientific research.
BCRF directs funding to researchers at leading universities and medical institutions around the world, giving them flexibility to investigate ambitious ideas and collaborate across disciplines. For the 2025–2026 funding year, it is awarding $74.75 million in grants to more than 260 scientists, including substantial investment in research on metastatic breast cancer. The foundation has raised more than $1 billion since its creation and describes itself as the largest private funder of breast cancer research worldwide.
